The story

Green Olive at Red Hill is one of those places where the moment you step onto the property, you feel your shoulders drop. There’s a warmth to it—sunlight on olive leaves, the smell of herbs drifting from the kitchen garden, the low hum of a working farm that’s genuinely loved. My goal with this project was to bottle that feeling and turn it into a social‑ready video that would help the farm share its story with a wider audience.

The owners speak about food, community, and sustainability with such sincerity that the narrative almost wrote itself. My job was to listen closely, observe quietly, and build a visual story that felt as honest and grounded as the place itself.

Project Objectives

The brief was simple in spirit but rich in meaning: create a video that feels like spending an afternoon at the farm.

The client wanted to:

  • Show the heart behind their paddock‑to‑plate philosophy
  • Highlight the produce grown, harvested, and cooked on the property
  • Capture the relaxed, communal experience visitors enjoy
  • Support tourism marketing with a warm, inviting visual story
  • Deliver a short‑form piece that feels natural in a social media feed

I approached the project with a focus on authenticity—letting the farm, the people, and the landscape speak for themselves.

Creative Approach

Letting the story come from the people who live it

The owner’s voice became the backbone of the video.

Their reflections on sustainability, composting, livestock, and the joy of sharing food gave the piece a human centre. Rather than scripting or staging, I used their natural cadence and language to guide the emotional tone.

Their words about planting new crops, running Wiltshire sheep, growing Pinot and Pinot Grigio, and building a cooking school over the years added a sense of evolution and care—perfect for shaping a narrative arc.

End-to-filming with a sense of presence production

I wanted the visuals to feel like you’re wandering the property alongside the people who work it.

That meant:

  • Shooting during soft, warm light to bring out the natural beauty of the landscape
  • Getting close to hands, tools, ingredients—those tactile details that make food stories feel alive
  • Capturing small, unscripted moments: a chook darting past, a hand brushing through herbs, a quiet smile between visitors
  • Using gentle camera movement to match the farm’s unhurried rhythm

The aim was to create a visual language that feels grounded, sensory, and real.

Editing for warmth and flow

IThe edit leans into a calm, steady pace—enough movement to keep social‑media viewers engaged, but never rushed.

Key choices included:

  • Building the structure around the owner’s voice to keep the story personal
  • Colour grading that enhances the greens, golds, and earthy tones of the farm
  • Layering ambient sound—wind, birds, kitchen noise—to keep the experience rooted in place
  • Choosing music that supports the mood without overpowering it

The final piece feels like a slow exhale: warm, inviting, and quietly confident.

Production highlights

  • Full on‑location shoot across the farm, vineyard, kitchen, and visitor areas
  • Interview‑driven storytelling to anchor the narrative in lived experience
  • Cinematic coverage of produce, livestock, and food preparation
  • Visual showcase of the farm’s product range—from olives and oils to chutneys, wines, and body products
  • Inclusion of cooking school moments to highlight hands‑on visitor experiences
  • Emphasis on sustainable practices and closed‑loop systems

Each element was chosen to reflect the farm’s personality: generous, thoughtful, and deeply connected to the land.

Outcome

The finished video gives Green Olive at Red Hill a versatile promotional asset that feels true to who they are. It supports their tourism efforts, strengthens their brand story, and offers viewers a genuine glimpse into the life of the farm.

For me, this project was a chance to bring together storytelling, cinematography, and place‑based narrative in a way that feels warm and human—exactly the kind of work I love doing.
